Does God Exist??

The most mystifying question that has always put a question mark in my mind, why mine but in everyone's mind.In this essay I just want to express my views on whether god exists or not and my explanation that follows. When I was born I assimilated whatever my parents taught me.I hail from a brahmin family and my life was based on the existence of god. But by the age I started thinking I was slowly transformed into an atheist.Life went on the way it should and there was no reason I would believe otherwise. My perception about this concept undertook a u-turn during my teens when I cultivated the habit of reading.

Once I came across a book by Stephan Hawkings ;the great scientist and philosopher of this age.The name of the book was 'The Brief History Of Time'.The first few pages itself made me think beyond my wildest imagination about the existence of God. The arguments he gave convinced me beyond doubt that God exists. He talks about the truth we know and asks some unanswerable questions. He says that we just explain the various theories of the very existence of the human species but are unaware of why it actually happened.
He asks if the whole universe started with a big bang then what happened before it.More basic would be the question "Why a Big Bang ?".If time started after the big bang was there no existence of time before it ?Ok ,accepted that a big bang occured. Then what after it?What rules governed the formation of the galaxies and can we ever discover them ?These were just some questions that always taken me for a roller coaster ride. This convinces us to some extent of a supernatural power which was present before the big bang, during it and afterwards.
We say that nature has some set of rules according to which this world is governed.Well then what is nature and who governs it ?Now I think even now you are somewhat in a turmoil about the whole issue.
My another argument relates to our personal lives itself. Why did it happen that we are the way we are.Why werent you born as Adolf Hitler or Albert Einstein and why as yourself ?This question seems strange but still unanswerable.I have always felt one strange thing in my life and I feel every person in this world feels it too.Doesnt it happen that sometimes the instances you come across in your daily life seem to be felt before, like you say "I have seen this happen before maybe in my dream" but obviously cant recall when and where ?
The questions I present here were just some of the unanswerable ones. You can think of many other. But you may never be able to answer them.
Thats why I believe in God.He is divine and omnipresent. He decides your fate and what you become in life.He decides the rules of the nature. He is there to help you in need. You just need to call upon him and he is there. He is the faith,he is the truth,he is God.

there can be very logical arguments against the existence of god as well. if you look at the history of religion, you'll notice something. man has always feared what he can't explain. hence the very first gods of the ancient cultures were nature gods, with their king as the god of rain/thunder (indra, zeus, thor etc) since men at that time couldn't explain phenomena such as rain, flood, fire etc. also being agro-based cultures, they gave importance to gods (and goddesses) of fertility. also humans were in the awe of the sun, the moon, the moving stars, and the fixed stars (planets) and considered them gods. of course, now that we know the truth, we no longer have the need to consider them gods. the majority of present day religions believe in the 'one'. even the hinduism in the strictest sense has only one god. however, we still can't explain the creation of universe, and people are still in the awe of the perfect balance of the universe (they fail to understand that if the universe would have been different, they wouldn't have been here to contemplate this in the 1st place!). so there's still the place for the god. but one day science will be able to solve the puzzle of creation. where would then be the place of god? by the way, biog bang is just a theory.

here are a few logical flaws with the concept of god:

1. god is supposed to be all virtuous. so he is definitely courageous, for courage is a virtue. but if he is so, it'd seem oxymoronic - someone can be courageous only in front of a stronger person, and not weaker. so if god is courageous, that means someone/something is stronger than him/her

2. nothing is deemed impossible for god. so can he create a mountain which he can't lift?

i don't claim to have extensive knowledge on this subject..but i think that many people who claim to be atheists, are actually agnostics..sceptical about the existence of god..as am i..

There are so many things in life that cannot be explained, even by the most learned or experienced humans, there are so many events which do not seem logical or right. So much is out of control, that its almost scary.. People just shrug away these unexpected or sometimes even uncanny incidents, by saying "its god's will"...When humans cannot find a decent reason behind the twisted events in their lives, they search for some other power...stronger and more yeilding than the Homo sapiens..and the result is the creation of "GOD"...

There are so many unanswered questions realting to God or his/her/its existence...

i dont have any scientific arguments, but this was just the general perception that me and a lot of my peers have on this issue...

anyway, well written sriram...

hi man! just happened to read this blog of urs.i want to say a bit about stephen hawkins and his theory about the existence of god. just take a look back at the history of mankind. it was proven again and again that anything we dont understand, we attribute it god. this has been human tendency and will continue to be.take for example the occurance of thunderstorm.according to indian myth, it happens when some crazed up guy over there does some crazed up thing.now we all know why it happens. take the example of magnetism...it was considered as a supernatural phenomenon too and now we know the answer to it..the reason for this is man dosent like things to be left unexplained.we need some explanation even if its dumb enf.we continue to believe any dumb explanation untill we get a better one as is done in throught the history.so u see my friend, things will be explained in due course of time and all that we attribute to god will be proven nothing but some form of science with a rational explanation.god is an idea required to keep people of this world in check.just imagine what would happen if every one is convinced that there is no god!!!!though i hate the idea of a supernatural power, i welcome it nevertheless as it keeps the balance in the world as ppl are frightened to cross the line most of the times.

God's trump card is the fact that no one can prove or disprove his existence.
